Nothing ruins a film night faster than the spinning circle. In our experience, buffering in MovieBox almost always comes from one of three things: a busy source, a slow or unstable connection, or a phone that is short on memory. Work through the list below from top to bottom; most people are fixed by step two or three.
- Pick another source. Tap the source button in the player. Popular titles have several links and the second one is often far less busy.
- Drop the quality one step. Going from 1080p to 720p halves the data the app needs each second.
- Clear the cache. Settings → Apps → MovieBox → Storage → Clear cache. Your downloads and history are not touched.
- Restart the router. Unplug it for thirty seconds; it sounds silly but solves many slow evenings.
- Use 5 GHz Wi-Fi. It is faster and less crowded than 2.4 GHz if you are in the same room as the router.
- Pause the VPN. A distant VPN server adds delay; switch to a closer one or turn it off for streaming.
- Close background apps. Phones with 2–3 GB of RAM struggle when many apps stay open.
- Update MovieBox. New versions regularly add sources and fix playback bugs.
Download instead of streaming
If your connection is simply too slow in the evening, start the download a few minutes before you want to watch. MovieBox lets you play a file while it is still downloading, so you get a smooth picture as long as the download stays ahead of the player.
How fast should my internet be?
| Quality | Speed needed | Data per hour |
|---|---|---|
| 480p | 2 Mbps | 0.7 GB |
| 720p | 4 Mbps | 1.5 GB |
| 1080p | 8 Mbps | 3 GB |
| 4K | 25 Mbps | 7 GB |
Tip: run a speed test at the time you usually watch, not in the morning. Evening speeds are often half of what you see during the day.
